As most of our fans know, George Lucas, the mind behind Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia, recently sold his Lucasfilms production company to Disney for more than $4 billion bucks. But he’s not keeping it.
He is preparing to give the whole haul to the kids of America. “I am dedicating the majority of my wealth to improving education,” Lucas wrote in a recent public pledge letter. “It is the key to the survival of the human race.”
Lucas founded the George Lucas Educational Foundation and the website Edutopia to give K-12 education a major overhaul. While he hasn’t given specifics yet, pundits predict that’s where most of the Disney cash will go.
After fueling the dreams and imaginations of kids everywhere with lightsabers and the Millennium Falcon in a galaxy far, far away – he’s following the old adage: “Charity begins at home” (or in this case, the classroom).
Is George Lucas a Jedi, or what?
